Maths

This term, Year 3 and 4 pupils will develop their understanding of number and place value before building confidence in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Children will learn to read, represent, compare and order numbers, use efficient mental and written calculation strategies, and strengthen their knowledge of multiplication and division facts.
Our maths curriculum follows a mastery approach, with learning carefully broken down into small, manageable steps. Through the use of practical resources, visual representations and written methods, pupils are encouraged to explain their thinking, reason mathematically and solve problems in a variety of contexts. Regular retrieval practice, focused times tables teaching and timely support help all children develop fluency, confidence and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
Throughout the year we shall be learning many new maths concepts and skills. It is really important for children to be able to instantly recall key facts. There will be great emphasis on learning the times tables. Children need to be able to recall all the multiplication facts by the end of year 4.

Children could be awarded their red badge by learning all the multiplication facts.
They could practise their knowledge by logging onto Times Tables Rock Stars or playing the games on the websites listed below.
