Nursery
Welcome to Nursery & Pre-School
On this page, you will find staff contact details and useful Early Years information.
Nursery & Pre-School Staff
Mrs. Collins teaches across both Nursery, Pre-School and Reception. Should you need to make contact her email address is: s.collins@grosvenorpark.lancs.sch.uk
Nursery
The children in our Nursery room are our younger children and they are supported by Miss Hughes, Mrs. Holland and Mrs. Williams. One of these members of staff will be assigned to your child as their Key Worker.
Pre-School
Children progress from the Nursery room to the Pre-School room whereby the focus shifts a little and children are supported to prepare for the start of school. The staff working in this room are Miss Birkett, Miss Hartley and Miss Leonard. The children continue to be supported by a Key Worker who will work more closely with them.
Room based Nursery & Pre-School staff can be contacted using the message feature on Seesaw.
If your message is important or needs actioning quickly please speak to someone in person either on the door at drop off or collection, alternatively call the school office (01524 845708) to get a message to staff.
What will my child need for Nursery / Pre-School?
Nursery
Your child will require a small backpack or changing bag for each session at Nursery. Please provide your child with:
- Changes of clothes in case of accidents or messy play (extras during periods of toilet training)
- Coat - every day to accommodate our changeable British weather!
- Nappies or Pull ups
- Wipes
- Nappy cream (if required)
- Nappy sack
- Cup or sports/straw bottle containing water
- Comforter (if required)
- Packed lunch (if not having school lunches)
Please ensure that all of your child's belonging are labelled with their name to avoid items getting lost or mixed up with another child.
We have wellies and puddlesuits available at Nursery but of you would prefer your child to have their own then you can provide that also.
Pre-School
By the time your child reaches the Pre-School room they will need to bring fewer things from home to Pre-School. At this stage we ask that you only send in what you child needs for that session. Our cloakroom space in Pre-School is of a premium so we request, that where possible, you limit what you send to:
- Coat
- Water bottle
- Lunch bag (if required)
If you need or to send your child with anything additional please speak to room based staff so that we can meet those needs without overcrowding the cloakroom space.
A Typical Day
Zumbini and Reading Fairy
As part of our commitment to enrichment at Grosvenor Park, in Nursery and Pre-School we source external providers to offer opportunities and experiences for our children as part of their
development. This year have been lucky to enjoy Zumbini, Reading Fairy and Role and Play Mini City.
Curriculum
In Nursery and Pre-School we learn through play and what we do is underpinned by the curriculum guidance of both Development Matters and Birth to 5.
The Characteristics of Effective Learning and the prime and specific Areas of Learning and Development are all interconnected. The ways in which the child engages with other people and their environment – playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically – underpin learning and development across all areas and support the child to remain an effective and motivated learner. The prime areas begin to develop quickly in response to relationships and experiences, and run through and support learning in all other areas. The prime areas continue to be fundamental throughout the EYFS. The areas are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language. The specific areas include essential skills and knowledge. They grow out of the prime areas, and provide important contexts for learning. These areas are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
Below are the curriculum notes for Summer term learning.
What are we learning this term?
Government Funding
When does the 30 hours free childcare start?
The increased offer will be rolled out in stages to allow childcare providers time to be able to implement the changes, making sure the places that are needed are available across the country when the offers are introduced.
- Eligible working parents of 2-year-olds are now able to access 15 hours childcare. Eligible working parents of 3- and 4-year-olds are also able to access 30 hours of government-funded childcare.
- From September 2025, support will reach 30 hours for eligible working parents with a child from 9-months-old up to school age.
These hours can be used over 38 weeks of the year during school term time, or up to 52 weeks if you use fewer than your total hours per week.
You can start using the entitlements from the term after you apply. These terms begin on 1 January, 1 April and 1 September.
Applications are now open for eligible working parents whose children will be 2 or older by the 31 August to receive 15 hours childcare, starting from September 2024.
And from 12 May, eligible working parents whose children will be aged between 9- and 23-months old on 31st August, can apply to receive 15 hours childcare starting from September 2024.

Useful Links and Information for Parents
The DfE has published a new guide for parents – ‘What to expect in the Early Years Foundation Stage’ (formerly ‘What to expect when’) which guides parents through what to expect in their child’s development. It aligns with the new Development Matters 2021 to help parents find out more about their child’s development whilst they are in Nursery and Reception Class.
