English
During the summer term, Class 8 will study The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo. Through exploring the text, they will develop active reading strategies, identify key ideas within chapters, and practise summarising important events and themes. Discussions and close reading will help pupils deepen their understanding of characters, setting and plot.
In writing, children will create a narrative linked to the novel, extending the storyline and developing characters in greater depth. They will consolidate their understanding of dialogue, using accurate punctuation to enhance meaning, and will be introduced to indirect speech to broaden their writing skills.
As the unit progresses, pupils will build on their understanding of different text types by exploring persuasive writing and writing to inform, applying these skills in meaningful contexts related to the text.
The unit will conclude with a focus on The Musical Lion by Oliver Herford, allowing children to make comparisons with Morpurgo’s work and reflect on themes, language and different literary styles explored throughout the unit.
Spelling continues to be a huge focus in MP2, children will have a 15 minute spelling lesson every day. We will be looking specifically at words from the Year 3 and 4 Statutory Spelling list. We appreciate any support we get at home in practising these spellings and working towards earning our spelling badges.

Handwriting
Handwriting is really important for making us proud of our work and helping to remember spelling.
We will be working hard to improve our handwriting this term, with a 15 minute handwriting session every day.
Here is the handwriting policy in case you would like to do any practise at home.
