Maths

During the summer term, we will revisit and consolidate key mathematical knowledge to strengthen our confidence and fluency. Class 8 will review place value, working with numbers up to four digits, including numbers with up to two decimal places. This will support a secure understanding of number and its representation.

We will revisit and practise written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, ensuring children can apply these accurately and efficiently. Alongside this, there will be continued emphasis on developing mental strategies for addition and subtraction to improve speed and confidence in calculations.

Year 4 pupils will also spend time preparing for the Multiplication Tables Check in June, with regular opportunities to rehearse and recall multiplication facts quickly and accurately.

As children continue to develop their understanding of new mathematical concepts and procedures, and demonstrate increasing fluency in fact recall, there will be a strong focus on reasoning and problem solving throughout the term. Pupils will be encouraged to explain their thinking, justify their methods and apply their mathematical knowledge to a range of challenging problems.

Practising your Maths skills at home is a great idea. Have a look at the useful links below to get you started on developing those skills.

Times Tables

It is incredibly important that you know and can recall your times tables in Year 4. If you haven't already got it, work hard and practise often to earn your Red Badge.

Calculations Policy

Here are our calculations policies. From here you can see how we build skills in adding, subtraction, multiplication and division. This may help you support learning at home.
