Sustainability and climate action
We are working towards gaining our Green flag.
Our Sustainability Action Plan
2024-2025
At Grosvenor Park Primary School we are always striving to be environmentally friendly. The Eco-Schools initiative is important within our schools ethos. We have been successful over the years and have achieved the Green Flag Eco-School award several times. This recognised our achievements in working towards a sustainable lifestyle.
Our Wildlife garden.
Our wildlife garden is always changing and developing. It is an outdoor classroom for our children to learn about animal and plant habitats and Biodiversity. Over the years we have had hedgehogs, birds and frogs and toads living there! We have recently added some colourful bird boxes in the garden that were very kindly bought by Mrs Walkden.
We are currently developing a 'gathering area' which will support our new and exciting Outdoor Learning Opportunities including developing aspects of The Forest School Approach within our curriculum and after school activities.
We need you to help us to reduce, re-use and recycle our waste.
Reduce- We aim to reduce the amount of waste and try not to waste our resources such as paper, water and electricity. Our 'Just One' approach in school supports this!
Re-use - We ask for everyone to help us do this! We ask our school family to donate books, toys, scooters, gardening tools, seeds, plant cuttings, wellies, junk modelling...
The list grows and grows each week!!
Recycle - At Grosvenor Park we recycle lots of different things including paper, plastic, batteries, uniform and ink cartridges. We encourage to children to bring re-useable water bottles to reduce plastic waste.
Pupil Voice and Sustainability
We have attended Local Primary Parliament meetings alongside other Local Schools where the older Parliament members have looked at Local and National Initiatives. The focus of these meetings have included the development of Eden North Project in Morecambe, Sustainability, Plastic waste, Democracy and the importance of Pupil Voice. We are looking forward to more exciting new initiatives over the next few years.
Sustainable travel
We encourage our School Family to travel to school Sustainably by either cycling, scooting, walking or using our walking bus service.
We have given all of our Key Stage Two children the opportunity to take part in Bikeability Training. This has enabled some children to achieve Level 2 Bikeability accreditation. For several children they actually overcame their fears and learned to ride a bike in a day!!!!
Switch Off and Save Energy
We aim to use our outdoor classrooms and environment on a weekly basis.
Each class has an Eco monitor who is in charge of switching off lights when not in use.
We have arranged 'Switch Off Afternoons' in school. This is where all classes turn off the electricity for the afternoon which reduces energy use and has helped save money too! Teachers plan Eco Activities on these afternoons to make full use of our wonderful outdoor environment.
Spring Clean and Tidy
Being a Sustainable school is all about working together to keep our environment clean and tidy.
At playtimes we have litter pickers who regularly collect litter that has been blown in from the local area. We have recently signed up for the 'Big Spring Clean' promoted by the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign. Every class will dedicate time and effort to collect litter and tidy in and around our school environment. Each class will then help to develop a whole school Litter Policy.
Active Environments
Our active breaks enable all children to choose and experience a variety of physical activities outside. Sports Leaders in Year 5 and 6 plan and organise activities and games for the younger children encouraging fun and participation for all.
With everyone's help we can educate and achieve even more awards and recognition for our hard work.
We will also be saving the planet!
We hope that you can be a part of it too! If you would like to get more involved in any of the projects please let us know.
