English
In English this term, Year 3 and 4 will be reading and responding to ‘Escape from Pompeii’ by Christina Balit.
This unit makes links to the wider curriculum as the novel is based on the tragedy of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius which destroyed Pompeii. The children will have the opportunity to research the natural disaster and link to learning about the formation and location of volcanoes in their geography unit. The children will write a narrative, a newspaper report and an explanation text. By exploring different writing purposes, the children will continue to develop and consolidate the skills they have been taught in the previous year.
Spelling continues to be a huge focus in MP2, children will have a 15 minute spelling lesson every day. We will be looking specifically at words from the Year 3 and 4 Statutory Spelling list. We appreciate any support we get at home in practising these spellings and working towards earning our spelling badges.

Handwriting
Handwriting is really important for making us proud of our work and helping to remember spelling.
We will be working hard to improve our handwriting this term, with a 15 minute handwriting session every day.
Here is the handwriting policy in case you would like to do any practise at home.
