English

In English this term, Year 3 and 4 will be studying fairytales. We will start our unit by studying, “The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs” by John Scieszka, as well as other traditional and modern tales. Throughout the unit, we will use drama, storytelling and discussion to develop our reading, oracy and writing skills.

By the end of the unit, children will:

  • Understand the features of fairy tales and narrative structure.
  • Write their own fairy tale with a clear beginning, middle and end.
  • Use punctuation, conjunctions and adverbs effectively in their writing.
  • Develop vocabulary through reading and discussion.
  • Read with expression and make inferences about characters and events.
  • Explore rhyme and perform rhyming couplet poems inspired by fairy tale texts.

Spelling continues to be a huge focus in MP2, children will have a 15 minute spelling lesson every day. We will be looking specifically at words from the Year 3 and 4 Statutory Spelling list. We appreciate any support we get at home in practising these spellings and working towards earning our spelling badges.

Handwriting

Handwriting is really important for making us proud of our work and helping to remember spelling.

We will be working hard to improve our handwriting this term, with a 15 minute handwriting session every day.

Here is the handwriting policy in case you would like to do any practise at home.
