Unlocking the ability to READ enables children to access so much more and learn about the world around them. Reading is important to development in all areas of the curriculum, especially writing.
Reading for enjoyment will continue to be a big focus this year. We shall be sharing lots of books with the children and it would be great if you could too. Class 5 really enjoy our daily story time!!
Your child will be provided with 2 reading /phonic books aimed at their level and a free choice reader. These will be changed once a week on TUESDAYS. The free reader is for you and your child to enjoy together, perhaps curled up on the sofa or at bedtime. Your child should read their reading books more than once. The first read might involve a lot of decoding, but in subsequent reads, your child will become more confident and the reading will become more fluent. Please ask lots of questions so your child develops greater understanding of the texts.
We aim to listen to your child read at least once (more if we can) a week. Please could you hear your child read as often as possible and make a comment (even if it is just a smiley face), date and initial your child's reading record.
Please ensure that book bags are brought into school every day. Thank you!
