What are we learning in English?
During the Summer Term, we will be reading the text: The Usborne 'Book of Greek Myths'. This is an AMAZING book full of incredible stories, which we are certain the children will love!
Throughout the term, we will be reading a selection of the short stories and, within each short unit, focusing our learning on a variety of skills in our English lessons.
Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation (SPaG) will be a huge focus this term. We will be learning and practising different spelling patterns, in both Year 3 and Year 4, as well as working hard to learn our Statutory Spellings. There will be a big push on earning those spelling badges so please work on this at home!
During Reading, Comprehension and Writing lessons, we will be working hard on developing our understanding of the text as well as explaining our ideas and thoughts within class discussions.
In their writing, children will be working on their understanding and use of the different word classes (Nouns, Adjectives, Verbs and Adverbs) and writing super sentences with powerful description. We will work hard on developing our use of complex sentences, different sentence starters for effect and using a variety of punctuation. Editing, improving and checking our writing will also be a priority.
